Always Read Your Car’s Owner’s Manual
We are often faced with questions at our Kia service center that could easily be answered by simply reading the owner’s manual. These questions run from the simple to the more complicated and are costing you both money and time. Reading the manual, for instance, gives you the information you need to check the oil in your car, change the air filters in both the cabin as well as the engine, check the state of the many belts that provide power to the engine, and many more small tasks just like these. Between the manual and some judicious use of Google, you should be able to do most basic maintenance on your car yourself, which will save you time and money compared to bringing your vehicle to the service center.
Reading the car owner’s manual and doing some of your own car maintenance tasks would mean that you only need to take your car into the garage when absolutely necessary, so when you’ve suffered major damage or if something is seriously wrong. Getting something as simple as a spark plug replaced can cost quite a bit of money, and you can easily do it yourself on a sunny afternoon. By doing more routine tasks yourself, you’re looking at thousands of dollars in potential savings, so read up on that manual and find out how you can do things yourself. Not only will you save money, there is a sense of pride you feel after taking care of a problem by yourself that is simply worth more than money.
El Paso Kia Looks at Red-Light Cameras
The City of El Paso enacted the Automated Red Light Camera Enforcement Program to reduce the number of traffic accidents on our city streets. The city hopes that the presence of the cameras will make drivers more aware of their actions when traveling, and for those who are not, a violation will arrive in the mail. The goal according to the police department is, “to reduce the number of red light violations, red light crashes, and red light injury crashes.” El Paso Kia takes a look at the city’s red light camera use.
Where are the Red Light Cameras?
Red light cameras in El Paso are located at the following locations:
Americas and Alameda Airways and Montana
Campbell and Missouri Gateway East and Zaragoza
Gateway West and Zaragoza
Gateway North and Kenworthy
Gateway North and Transmountain
Hawkins and Montana
Joe Battle and Montowood Joe Battle and Rojas
Lee Trevino and Montwood McCombs and Sun Valley
Mesa and Sunland Park Montwood and Zaragoza
Redd and Resler Resler and Mesa
Rushing and Woodrow Bean Sunland Park and Mesa Hills
What You Need to Know
If a red light camera catches you, these are a few things you need to know:
- Payments made online for your red light camera violation cannot be made at the Municipal Court. Payments are to be made through REDFLEX.
- You can make your payment in person with a money order, check, or credit/debit card. You can also make your payment online with a credit/debit card, but you will have to pay a “transaction fee” of $2.95.
- The fine is $75
- The ticket does not go on your driving record; it is a civil penalty again the OWNER of the vehicle, not the driver.
- If the $75 is not paid, the owner’s name is turned over to a collection agency and/or the Texas DOT, which may result in the inability to register the vehicle in the future.
Check Your Tire Pressure Regularly
We often notice that people don’t always check the pressure of their tires, to their own grief. After all, you’re going down the highway at 65 to 70 miles per hour, don’t you want to make sure that those small pieces of rubber that connect you to the road are in perfect condition? Under or overinflated tires are more likely to blow out when you hit debris in the roads. Improperly inflated tires will also contribute to a loss of fuel efficiency. By checking the state of your tires regularly and making sure there’s not too much wear and tear you are ensuring that you can count on them in a sticky situation.
More important than damage, though, is pressure. Damage can be seen with the naked eye, while pressure needs some kind of tool to check it. Don’t count on a kick test helping you: if you can feel there’s a lack of pressure with a kick, you should have refilled them with air a long, long time ago! Instead, get a little pressure gauge from your local department store or auto parts retailer, and check your tire pressure that way. It should, however, be mentioned that these little appliances are far from perfect and have been shown to be off by as much as 20 percent. They will cost anywhere between $20 to $40 and are the very best way to ensure that soft tires are a thing of the past. Most gas stations also offer tire pressure gauges and air to refill tires that are soft.
If you’re ever in the neighborhood of our Las Cruces Kia Dealership, you should drop by and take a look at this year’s Optima LX, a great car for the whole family. Few cars in the mid-size sedan segment will be this affordable, economical and, above all, safe than this upstanding member of the Kia clan. The LX is the most basic of all trims, but don’t let that put you off as Kia still offers a generous amount of accessories in their basic models. Starting out at just over $21,000, this really is a highly affordable car, and that is without taking the great fuel economy into account. The Optima gets 23 miles to the gallon in cities and 34 on the highway, a real winner in its segment.
More important than anything else, though, is of course the safety of you and your family as you travel. The Optima LX comes with a wide range of functions that will ensure you make it to your destination in one piece, from electronic traction and stability control, anti-lock disc brakes and air bags that will protect you from all sides should the worst happen. In fact, the government put the Optima through their crash tests and awarded the sedan five stars out of five for safety performance, which the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety agreed with. Both of the pronouncements make us feel very confident in recommending the Optima to you and your family.

The main selling point of the Koup EX in our eyes is its engine: the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces up to 173 horsepower and 154 pound-feet of torque, making it go from zero to 60 in 8.1 seconds. This is a real accomplishment for a coupe and makes it zip along the road like no other. There are several basic car maintenance and repairs you can do yourself without having to take your vehicle to local car dealerships in El Paso, TX. Most simple car repairs only need a few tools you should already have around the home, such as screwdrivers, a socket set, and pliers. Any repairs you do yourself only requires you to pay for the parts and eliminates you having to pay for labor.
Before undertaking any car repair, take the time to review your owner’s manual. This manual contains a wealth of information, as well as instructions for some basic car repairs. Besides reviewing your manual, you can check online for other useful resources, like “how to” videos and step-by-step written instructions.
- Wiper Blades: Changing wiper blades is one of the easier DIY repairs. Most wiper blades are secured to the wiper arm with a single locking clip. All that is required is a new set of blades and maybe a flathead screwdriver.
- Headlights and Tail Lamps: Depending on your vehicle model, it is easy to access headlights and tail lamps when they burn out and need to be replaced. Look in your owner’s manual, as it may show details about how to change the bulbs.
- Fuses: Changing fuses is not complex. Your owner’s manual should show you where the fuse box is located within the vehicle, as well as contain a diagram showing what each fuse powers. Sometimes, the diagram is under the fuse box housing cover. Just make sure to replace the fuse with the same amperage fuse.
- Air Filter: The air filter is typically on top of the engine and only requires opening the hood. The air filter housing might not require any tools to open, either, as most are kept securely closed with locking and unlocking clips.
- Fluids: Fluid reservoirs are accessed under the hood and can be quickly checked to see if you need refill them, like washer fluid, brake fluid, oil, or transmission fluid. Refer to the owner’s manual for more details.
- Oil and Oil Filter: Changing the oil and oil filter requires an intermediate skill level. You do need an oil filter wrench, socket set, and oil pan to collect the used motor oil, as well as car ramps and a jack to elevate the vehicle if it is close to the ground.
- Checking Tire Pressure: Maintaining the right tire pressure is not difficult and only requires a tire pressure gauge device. Check your owner’s manual for more details about the correct pressure your vehicle.

There are many different reasons why some people like shopping for a newer model used car instead of a brand new one. Even though there are great deals on brand new models at your local El Paso auto dealers, not everyone is ready to drive off in a brand new car. The following are some of the different reasons given for buying used instead of new. Feel free to use these to help you determine whether a new car or a used car is best for your needs whenever you are shopping for a new vehicle.
- Do you have children? Let’s face it, children are messy. Preventing them from making a mess in the back seat is difficult. Accidental spills and snack crumbs are normal. For parents, investing in a new car and attempting to keep it clean is not always the best decision. In the meantime, until the children get older, getting a good used vehicle makes more sense, since they do not have to worry about the mess their kids make.
- The amount of value a car loses during the first year. Most of a vehicle’s depreciation occurs during the first year. Some people even believe you lose several thousands of dollars the minute you drive a new car off the lot. Purchasing used for this group of people is second nature, since they want to retain the most value in their vehicle with the least amount of depreciation, whether they keep a few years or until it no longer runs.
- People who drive an excessive amount of miles each year. For those people who have long commutes to work, and rack up tens of thousands of miles each year, getting a high quality used vehicle provides reliable transportation without the new car cost. These people often replace their vehicle every three to five years, so buying new one would put them upside down on their loan and would not be a wise investment decision.
- Parents who have teenaged drivers behind the wheel. Teenagers are inexperienced drivers and putting them behind the wheel of a brand new car is never a good idea. Teenagers already have enough pressure on them to concentrate on the road and other drivers. Additionally, accidents are bound to happen. Further, the costs to insure a teenaged driver are more expensive on new vehicles, compared to used cars.
- People on tight budgets with so-so credit. Peolple with less than stellar credit may not qualify for new car leasing and financing programs, but will qualify for used car financing programs. Buying used allows them to get a decent bargain on a newer modeled vehicle, while at the same helps rebuild their credit.
Whether you decide you want a new vehicle, or a used one, you can find a wide variety of new, certified pre-owned, and used models in stock at Integrity Kia. Stop by our showroom and car lot in El Paso, or give us a call at 915-856-2982 today.

Leasing a new car from car dealers in El Paso has its advantages over traditional financing and purchasing the vehicle upfront. With car leases, your monthly payments are typically much lower, allowing you to afford higher priced vehicles without going above your budget. You might be wondering how it is possible to lease a higher priced vehicle. The answer is directly related to the lease’s payment terms and conditions.
Lease programs only require you to pay a fraction of the cost of the vehicle based upon the length of the lease. You monthly payment includes two different amounts: monthly vehicle depreciation and monthly finance charge. Further, rather than paying the full amount of sales taxes upfront, like you do with conventional financing, you pay the taxes on a monthly basis, which are charged on the dollar amount of the monthly payment, not the total price of the vehicle. In the event you have a down payment and/or vehicle trade-in allowance, these are deducted from the final price of the vehicle you negotiated with the car dealership in El Paso.
For example, if the total price of the vehicle you were looking at was $22,000, and you had a $3,000 down payment and a $4,000 trade-in allowance, the adjusted price used to calculate monthly lease payments would be $15,000. For illustrative purposes, let’s say the lease period was 36 months, and the vehicle was being depreciated over 10 years (120 months). This would mean your monthly depreciation amount is $150. Let’s say the monthly finance charge is $20 and the sales tax rate is 8.5%. So, your monthly payment is $150, plus the $20 finance charge, plus 8.5% sales taxes on $170. In other words, the total monthly lease payment is approximately $185.
Now, let’s compare the costs of financing to demonstrate how leasing makes it possible to afford a more expensive vehicle. Rather than leasing, you decide to finance the $15,000 and purchase the vehicle upfront. On top of this $15,000, you also have to pay $1,870 in sales taxes on the original vehicle price of $22,000. So, the total amount financed is $16,870. You decided to take out a 5 year (60 month) loan with an interest rate of 3.9%. Your monthly payment amount is approximately $310 per month.
From these examples, it should be a bit clearer why leasing has lower monthly payments and makes it possible to afford vehicles that would be normally be outside your price range using conventional financing. At the end of your lease period, you always have the option to purchase the vehicle. If you do decide to purchase the vehicle, then you are only financing the value left in the vehicle and paying taxes on that amount, not the original purchase price. To learn more about lease programs and to find out if a lease if right for you, stop by Integrity Kia today, or contact us by phoning 915-856-2982.
