When you register your car, you get a title from DMV. If the car is free and clear, it is just a private passenger title. There are, however, other types of titles and each comes with its own requirements and insurance concerns. Integrity KIA explains the different types of vehicle titles.
First, Verify the Info
When you get your car title in the mail or you purchase a car, take a few steps to ensure you have the right title or that you aren’t a victim of fraud.
- Verify the VIN on the title and registration are the same
- Verify the VIN on the title matches the VIN on the driver’s side door jamb
- Make sure the VIN on the inside of the door jamb and the VIN plate in the bottom part of the windshield are the same.
Types of Titles
If you buy new a car or used car, or you have an accident, you will run into a few different titles.
- Salvage title or Junk title
If you file a car claim, and the cost of repairs exceeds the actual cash value of the car, the company will allow you to retain the vehicle if it is declared a total loss, but DMV will only issue a salvage title. When this happens, you can still keep the car and rebuild it or use it for parts. You will not receive a clear title, it may be marked ‘REBUILT,’ once repairs are complete.
- Rebuilt title
If a car has a rebuilt title, it cannot have a clear title in the future. Rebuilt titles are only issued to cars that have been rebuilt and inspected by the state.
- Clear title
Clear title is a regular title. It may have a lien on it.
- Abandoned title
Abandoned titles are issued to cars that have been impounded by a registered towing company or operator, or cars that have been abandoned for many years.
You have to be careful, when you are looking at used cars for sale in El Paso, TX, and you have poor credit. There are some El Paso used car dealerships who say they can help rebuild your credit, but it comes at a price. While you are shopping different car dealers, take the time to ask questions and verify that you understand exactly what you are getting yourself into. In some cases, the monthly payments are extremely high and place an even greater financial burden upon you, making it difficult to make ends meet. The following are some warning signs and tips to help avoid a financial nightmare.
Warning Number 1:
Some dealers may focus on lending you money and giving you a vehicle they select for you to drive. Their sales pitch is something like this: “It’s not the vehicle that matters, but the fact we are lending you money. By paying regular monthly payments until the loan is paid off, it will rebuild your credit.” This should be a red flag, because the amount of money they lend you, along with a high interest rate, often results in paying about four or five times more than the vehicle is worth. Also be wary of dealers offering to issue you a credit card and charge the cost of the vehicle to the card.
Warning Number 2:
Before signing any loan agreement, read through the fine print. The fine print is where you find hidden gems of information like prepayment penalties and early pay-off penalties. If the dealer is rushing you to sign and says there is nothing to worry about, chances are there are some hidden fees in the fine print. If you notice any penalties or added fees for paying off your loan earlier, an excessive interest rate, or something to the effect that you still have to pay the full amount of interest, walk away.
Tip Number 3:
Work with reputable car dealerships when shopping for a car. If you stick with brand names, like Kia, you have a better opportunity of securing the vehicle you want at a payment you can afford. In addition, be upfront and honest with the sales associate and dealership. Let them know you have so-so credit and are looking to get a used vehicle as a means to help rebuild your credit. Many reputable dealers in El Paso have pre-existing lender relationships in place and know exactly which ones specialize in loans for people with poor credit.
Tip Number 4:
Remember to include car insurance in your monthly payment budget. It is easy to forget about car insurance until after signing the loan agreement. Contact local insurance agents to get a quote for insurance, once you have a particular vehicle in mind, before applying for financing. Most insurance agents are able to give you an estimate right over the phone. Additionally, the car dealership can supply an estimated monthly car payment amount without having to apply for financing, so long as you were honest about your credit. Once you have both figures, add them together and verify that they fit into your monthly budget.

News About New Concept Kia Vehicles
Kia is constantly researching ways to maintain high quality standards while delivering a diverse vehicle selection at El Paso Kia dealers. As technologies continue to evolve, improve, and change, so do car concepts and designs. Currently, Kia is working on a complete redesign of the Kia Sportage, with anticipation of a release of the new model sometime in 2017. The Sportage has been a mainstay of the Kia car lineup since first being introduced to the United States. Initial testing of the new model design features a more aerodynamic appearance than the current Sportage models. People can expect the features and options to remain similar to those currently found in the Sportage line, with some minor changes related to updated technologies.
Another concept vehicle Kia currently has in development is a new subcompact crossover model. The new model will offer consumers the same high quality currently found in all Kia models. The initial test concept vehicle is similar in size to Honda’s HR-V crossover model. Kia’s development team is exploring several different engine and operational options with the new subcompact crossover model, including gasoline, hybrid, and electric only models.
As fuel prices continue to fluctuate, and with uncertainty about future prices, fuel efficiency is quickly becoming a major factor with consumers looking at purchasing a new vehicle. Working with the latest technologies, Kia is hard at work developing several different choices for fuel efficiency in the new subcompact model. Expect the gasoline engine subcompact crossover model to offer mileage similar to those found on other subcompact crossovers, with slight improvements. The hybrid option will have a smaller gas tank and utilize electronic technologies to increase fuel efficiency and mileage in between fill-ups at the pump.
The electric-only model concept eliminates the need for fuel completely. As the number of electric recharge stations increases in cities around the country, people are going to have easy access to plug in their vehicle while they are at work, shopping, or enjoying their vacation. The fuel costs for electric-only models will vary by market, depending upon the electricity costs in a particular region. In addition, some recharge stations at some locations might be offered for free, such as part of a hotel resort’s amenities for being a guest.
As you look forward to these new concepts, keep in mind there are often changes made during testing and development phases. The original concept vehicles could look entirely different from those released for production. There can also be delays in the release of the new concept vehicles, until Kia officially announces the release date. Additionally, expect Kia to continue to incorporate newer technologies in the current Kia vehicle line-up.

Are you someone who occasionally skips oil changes on your vehicle? Do you know all the reasons why regular oil changes are important? Keeping your car up to date on oil changes can ultimately save you money and increase your car’s longevity.
Why Clean Oil is Important
Clean oil is critical to your car’s engine. The oil in your vehicle coats and lubricates your engine to keep it running efficiently and to protect it from overheating. The right amount of oil is also important. When your car’s oil runs low, lubrication can be reduced and your engine parts can wear down quickly.
What Happens to Car Oil When You Don’t Get It Changed
When you don’t get your engine oil changed at the recommended time, your oil can become dirty. Dirty oil becomes thick and grimy and can clog your engine and cause it to overheat. Dirty oil can also burn and release more pollution into the environment.
Benefits Of Clean Oil
Clean oil benefits your vehicle with increased gas mileage. Clean oil also allows for less wear and tear on your engine. Additionally, your car’s performance is optimized when you are running on frsh oil. Overall, your car’s cost will be less during its lifetime and your car will last longer when you adhere to a strict oil change schedule.
When Should You Get Your Car’s Oil Changed?
Every vehicle is different so you should consult your owner’s manual. Most vehicles need to have fresh oil about every 5,000 miles. If it is time to get your car’s oil changed fill out the scheduling form on our website today and we will contact you to set up an appointment.
Some people do not think about the benefit of paying extra on their auto loans on their vehicles purchased from car dealerships in El Paso. They simply figure they are stuck with the regular payment amount for the life of the loan. However, this is not the case. Much like a home mortgage, your car loan has an amortization schedule. This schedule is a breakdown of every monthly payment for the life of the loan and shows how much of the payment is applied toward interest and the loan principal balance. There are tools you can use to create your own amortization table, or ask your lender for a copy.
Initially, the amortization schedule will have a larger portion of the monthly payment being applied towards interest. As you continue to make monthly payments, the monthly interest amount starts declining, and the monthly principal amount starts increasing. Toward the end of the loan, the majority of the monthly payment is applied to the principal balance. By paying a little bit extra each month towards the principal balance, not only do you pay the car off sooner, but reduce the amount of interest paid back during the life of the loan.
For illustrative purposes, let’s assume you financed $20,000 for five year (60 months) at a 6% interest rate. The regular monthly payment would amount to $386.66, not counting any add-ons, like extended warranty coverage or service agreements. If you were to pay an extra $100 per month toward the principal balance, you would pay off your vehicle in 4 years (48 months). Where some people are misled is they calculate 60 months times the regular car payment and compare this amount to multiplying 48 months times $486.66, and then assume they are paying more during the 4 years instead of just paying the regular payment over 5 years.
What actually occurs is the principal amount decreases faster, which means the amount charged in interest also declines. If you were to look at an amortization schedule, you would discover the total amount paid in interest by just making your regular monthly payment over five years is $3,199.36, compared to $2,444,38 by paying the extra $100 per month for the life of the loan and paying it off a year early. New car leases are sometimes confusing for people who have never leased a vehicle. It is important to understand the financial obligations of a lease to determine whether this is your best option in order to drive off in a brand new Kia vehicle from your Kia dealer in El Paso. Just like financing a new car, a lease is a type of financing program.
A lender underwrites the lease agreement for a set period of time, typically three years. Most lease lenders require a down payment unless there is a special promotion in effect, where the down payment is waived. Acceptable down payments are in the form of cash or an allowance from a trade-in vehicle. In addition to the down payment, other financial obligations you are required to pay during the length of the lease include:
- Monthly lease payments: There will be a monthly payment amount, often less than traditional financing, which needs to be paid on time to avoid late fees. If you constantly are late or miss lease payments, the lender may repossess the vehicle.
- Repairs and maintenance: You are responsible for all repairs and maintenance of the vehicle, even though you do not own it. You are required to keep the vehicle in proper working order, as well as keep the interior and exterior clean. If you are involved in an accident, you have to get any damages fixed.
- Full coverage car insurance: The lease lender will require you to maintain full coverage car insurance on the vehicle during the length of the lease in the event of an accident. If you do not, the lender may take out their own policy to protect their interests, and add the costs onto your lease or repossess the vehicle.
- License plates: In order to drive the car, you have to obtain license plates and pay for tag renewals annually.
- Gasoline: Leasing does not cover fuel and other transportation costs (i.e. tolls and parking). These are your financial responsibility. Sometimes there are promotions, where the dealer does offer a prepaid fuel card in a set amount to help out initially.
Now that you are aware of the financial obligations of lease programs, you can better decide if a new Kia lease is the right choice for you. It is important to remember, there are specific terms and conditions with a lease beyond financial obligations, such as mileage restrictions and not being able to modify the vehicle from its original condition. If you drive an excessive amount, there are a few options, to avoid having to pay a fee at the end of the lease, like paying for extra miles upfront as part of your monthly lease payment.
